How to Spot Fake Profiles and Scams

The vast majority of people on LatinFlare are genuine, but it’s worth knowing the warning signs of fake profiles and scammers so you can protect yourself.

  • Too good to be true photos — very high-quality, model-like images often belong to someone else. Try a reverse image search to check.
  • Very sparse profile — no bio, only one photo, vague or generic information
  • Inconsistencies — age, location, or details that don’t add up between photos or across the conversation
  • Newly created profile — while everyone starts somewhere, a brand new profile combined with other red flags is worth noting
  • Moving too fast emotionally — saying “I love you” or making serious relationship claims very quickly, before you’ve even met
  • Avoiding video calls — always having an excuse not to video call, even after weeks of messaging
  • Inconsistent details — their story changes or doesn’t match up with earlier messages
  • Redirecting to another platform — asking you to move to WhatsApp, Telegram, or another app early in the conversation, especially before meeting
  • Asking for money — this is the clearest sign of a scam. No matter how convincing the story — an emergency, a plane ticket, an investment opportunity — do not send money to someone you have not met in person.

If you suspect a profile is fake or a scam:

  1. Stop engaging — you don’t need to explain yourself
  2. Report the profile — use the in-app report feature so our moderation team can investigate
  3. Block the user — this prevents any further contact
  4. Do not send money — even if you feel you already have a connection
